Although it may seem that self-confident people appear to thrive in any situation, however new or strange, they may not actually be confident all of the time. Just like the rest of us, they can lose confidence when they go through a bad experience, such as being dumped or losing their job; however, the difference is that they are often able to recover from these setbacks much faster.
Confident people tend to share a number of key characteristics; if you feel you need to work on your confidence, try adopting some of these principles and see if they work for you:
- Be optimistic and believe that the glass is half-full rather than half-empty.
- Learn from your mistakes, move on and don't dwell on the past.
- Believe that life is what you make it and anything's possible within reason.
- Take up as many new social opportunities as possible.
- Have a good understanding of how you can look and be your best to feel good about yourself.
- Be in control of your life rather than letting life control you.
- Get rid of emotional baggage as soon as possible and move on without pre-conceived ideas.
- Understand and feel comfortable with your own individuality.
- Be adept at both giving and receiving compliments.
- Be willing to take risks, knowing that even if you're wrong the results will provide you with an understanding of future risks.
- Have realistic expectations about life; although it may not be perfect, make the best of it.
