Four sites across the city (plus several associate colleges and regional centres in eg Bath, Bristol, Gloucester and Swindon). Main site, Frenchay Campus, is 6 miles from Bristol city centre; between the M4 and M32, so good access, and regular bus service (in the day, less so at night). 4 bars (2 in SU), events venue and SU offices. Large numbers of students makes it either impersonal or bustling with excitement.
Poor car parking facilities. St Matthias (or St Matts) is main site for humanities and psychology in quiet residential suburb of Fishponds; beautiful site built in 1852 (very Oxbridge!). Long journey from city centre; regular daily bus service but inadequate parking. Union bar is very friendly with community spirit and lots of fun events. Health and social care are at Glenside Campus, just down the road from St Matts. Attractive, converted site, with best uni accommodation; inadequate bus service, iffy parking; popular student centre.
Bower Ashton is next to beautiful Ashton Court estate, providing art, media and design students with great visual inspiration of the deer park; in need of refurbishing but has good spirit. SU bar and regular events. Rather difficult to get to; bus service a problem. With 2 universities, housing in Bristol is increasingly difficult and costly; prices will shock students other than Londoners. An attractive and active city for students.
Relationship between students and locals is good; plenty to do eg arts, exhibitions, pubs, film, restaurants, live music etc. Active SU has offices and committees on all sites. It runs advice centre, activities centre, media production unit, training centre, snooker room, job shop, magazine (Westworld), entertainments and nursery. Politically independent but very active on local and national campaigns. Plenty to see and do.
