Several different server types exist for any number of different networking functions and situations. Here we've split servers into two broad categories for descriptive purposes. These are:
- Local Area Network (LAN)/Networking servers
- Internet-related servers
It is worth noting that some servers may have functions that relate to both these categories. For example, a proxy server is usually installed on a Local Area Network (LAN) for the purpose of accessing the Internet.
