Types of Screws

Countersunk head

For general joinery.

Roundhead

For fixing sheet material too thin to be countersunk.

Raised countersunk head

For use with ironmongery and screwcups for high-quality finishes.

Dome heads

For fixing mirrors and plastic/laminated panels. Heads can be drilled and topped to take threaded shank of dome, or snap-on fitting can be used.

Star (or cross) heads

These screws require special screwdrivers, but the recessed cross slots in the heads offer good positive contact with the screwdriver and, therefore, there is less likelihood of damaging a surface with a slipping screwdriver head.

'Twinfast' double spiral thread

Fast to drive home and self-centring with 25% more holding power than ordinary screws. Ideal for use with chipboard, blockboard and fibreboard.

Clutch head

Non-removeable/tamper proof wood screws used for security purposes.

Coach screws

Used for heavy construction. They use washers and are driven into specially prepared holes and given final turns with a spanner.
