What Do The Houses Represent?

1st House (Ascendant) - The individual personality

Naural Sign - Aries - the sign of new beginnings.

Our projected behaviour, temperament, health, how we react to those around us and our appearance.

Together with the Sun and Moon the ascendant is one of the most important factors in a horoscope. The sign at the beginning of the first house tells us a lot about someone's personality, disposition and constitution. It characterises our intuitive reaction and shows how we present ourselves to the world.

2nd House - Values and Possessions

Natural Sign - Taurus - the sign of material goods.

Our material side. This house tells us about the material circumstances, the acquisitive urge and how we deal with possessions and material means.

3rd House - Communication

Natural Sign - Gemini - the sign of communications.

The third house and any planets occupying it tell us of our siblings, the manner in which we communicate on an everyday level and the relationships which determine our daily life.

4th House - Roots and Origins

Natural Sign - Cancer - sign of the home.

This house describes our origins, parental home and the influences on our childhood and youth. It describes our attitude towards home and kin and how we relate to family life.

5th House - Pleasure and Creativity

Natural Sign - Leo - sign of romance, creativity, and children.

Our attitude toward sexuality and eroticism, along with creative expression and play in general. Also how we relate to children, pleasure and fun.

6th House - Work and Routine

Natural Sign - Virgo - sign of work, service, and health.

The sixth house tells us about the general circumstances surrounding us in our daily lives, including daily routine and the work environment, including our behaviour towards employers and employees. Hygiene and care also belong here, as well as predispositions to certain illnesses.

7th House - Relating

Natural Sign - Libra - sign of partnership.

The house tells us about how we select our partners and describes the relationships we seek. Often we are attracted to people whose horoscopes carry a strong emphasis of the sign in our seventh house.

8th House - Loss and Common Property

Natural Sign - Scorpio - sign of sex, death, regeneration, and other people's money.

This house describes how we relate to possessions of others and how we deal with material loss. It also has an affinity to death - the ultimate material loss.

9th House - Philosophies and Far Countries

Natural Sign - Sagittarius - sign of higher mind, religion, philosophy, and long journeys.

The ninth house describes our spiritual leaning, life philosophy and our world view - often influenced by journeys to foreign countries. It shows the principles (or lack of principles) that we were raised with.

10th House - Occupation and Calling

Natural Sign - Capricorn - sign of ambition and organizing skills.

The tenth house begins with the Midheaven (MC) and is of particular importance, since it affects not only our choice of profession - it also has a bearing on our general development, what we become. It focuses on career (as opposed to day-to-day work), public image and the goals of our life.

11th House - Friends and Acquaintances

Natural Sign - Aquarius - sign of friendship.

This house describes how we relate to friends and teachers - people who wish us well or from whom we can learn and it also shows us in these roles. It indicates how we relate to the society in which we live and how we deal with groups of people.

12th House - Beyond the Personal

Natural Sign - Pisces - sign of intuition, dreams, and compassion.

This house corresponds to those areas of life in which the individual no longer plays a part. Strong placements here usually increase one's intuition.
