The twelve signs of the Zodiac are divided into two groups of six - masculine and feminine, known as the sign's duality. Masculine signs are defined as active - direct and energetic, whereas feminine signs are passive - receptive and magnetic. Modern Astrologers try to avoid any implicit sexism shown in these descriptions, and male signs are described as outer-directed and strong through action, whilst feminine signs are self-contained and strong through inner reserves.

Masculine
The Active Signs are extroverted and confident in nature, usually reacting in a direct confrontational manner, without a great deal of deliberation. They are objective, dynamic, and uninhibited during adult life and they tend to be noticed more quickly than the Passive signs.
Feminine
Passive Sign people are introverted and naturally quiet by nature, thinking before they act and prefering to work quietly behind the scenes. They are introspective and guarded, especially in childhood, and tend to be overlooked in favour of the Active signs until they are able to develop a more confident approach.
