What Type of Property?

There's a huge range of different property styles to choose from in the UK, from 17th century period houses to ultra modern apartments. Before you start your search for a new home, it's important to take some time to decide exactly what type of property you're looking to buy. Ask yourself what you want, what you need, and most importantly, what can you afford?

Do you want a house or an apartment? If you're looking for a house, must it be detached or would you be happy with a semi-detached, terraced or town house? Do you want a new or old house? If you're looking for a period house, must it be of a certain style, such as Georgian or Victorian? What about buying a plot of land and building your own home?

In this section, we take a look at the major styles of property in the UK to help you to answer these questions and decide the type of home you want to buy.
