19 February - 20 March
Negative - Mutable - Water
The complete circle of the 12 signs of the Zodiac reaches its conclusion with Pisces. It contains a little of every other sign and is often the most difficult of all to understand. The symbol for Pisces is two fishes, each swimming in a different direction, and its ruler is Neptune, the god of the sea. Their desire to go backward and escape into an imaginary, fearless world conflicts with their compulsion to drive themselves toward the spotlight in order to show their talents. As a result of this, Pisceans are rarely content.
The complexity of their emotions makes them hard to work out, and it's uncertain whether or not anyone can truly know a Piscean person. Just when you think you have them figured, they do something out of the ordinary or react in a totally unexpected manner. Most of the time, they are quiet and reflective, preferring to watch and wait rather than leap straight in. They are usually sympathetic, kind and supportive, and readily offer a shoulder to cry on. But when they need to be comforted themselves, they find it hard to express their feelings to others, and often turn away and console themselves in private.
They have an immense capacity to reach dizzying heights or plummet to great depths, and this leaves them susceptible to addictions - not just drugs and alcohol but sex, food, and other compulsions. They can be gullible and easily tempted, especially when young. Pisceans hate to see anything or anyone (apart from themselves) hurt and will always offer support to the underdog.
The main mystery of this sign is the diversity of its subjects. No two are alike. Each Piscean will react differently to the same situation according to the mood of the moment. Nothing is too much for them to handle when they are in a positive mood, but when they are negative they can sometimes drown in their own sorrows.
Pisces at Work
Piscean skills are many and varied, but their acute sensitivity and shyness make it difficult for them to enjoy a strict working environment. Routine work and harsh words do not suit their nature, and they are much happier when allowed to work at their own pace among few people in a more relaxed atmosphere. Highly creative and artistic by nature, they are suited to professions which develop these talents such as musician, artist, or writer.
Pisceans are capable of working at all levels and it is often difficult to determine how they will handle a particular work situation. They often find themselves in subordinate positions, but when they do assert themselves, they are a force to be reckoned with and cannot be overlooked. They will work tirelessly to accomplish good results when they are appreciated and valued for who they are. They might take up work as a musician, artist, sailor, pharmacist, meteorologist, fisherman, oil-rig worker, nurse, psychic or medium, social worker or counsellor.
Pisces at Play
Though lively, talented, and imaginative, when it comes to physical activity many Pisceans appear to have little endurance. Tough physical regimes are often too demanding for the weak Piscean constitution. This sensitive sign is not keen on getting involved in anything they do not understand or enjoy because defeat in sport or games is demoralizing for them. The best sports for Pisces are those involving water such as swimming, diving, surfing, canoeing, rowing, or sailing. They are light on their feet and make good dancers and footballers.
The most rewarding pursuits for Pisceans are those which require little physical strength such as writing, art, or music and they are drawn to activities such as meditation and yoga. They also love the theatre and despite their introverted characters, they can become good actors - transforming themselves completely on stage.
Pisces and Health
Renowned for their weak constitutions and tendency to consume harmful addictive substances, Pisceans can shorten their lives accordingly. Pisceans need to keep warm, especially around the hands and feet, as they are prone to rheumatism and blood circulation problems. They also suffer from foot ailments, diabetes, and all illnesses that stem from their personal addictions. Anorexia is common, as is obesity.
