Like the planets, the signs of the zodiac play a central role in Astrology. As the sun moves through the sky, rising in the east and setting in the west, it traces a path called the ecliptic, which is also known as the circle of the zodiac. The circle of the zodiac is divided into 12 segments, with a key constellation within each segment, giving rise to the each Sun Sign's name. Each sign of the zodiac symbolizes a vital phase of life, as well as a basic personality type.
Sometimes referred to as a Zodiac Sign or Star Sign, our Sun Sign represents the sign of the Zodiac that the Sun was in at the time of our birth. As the orbit of the earth around the Sun is constant (it spends about 30 days in each constellation), the Zodiacal Sun sign is always the same in any given month.
