The decision as to whether or not to have a religious ceremony will be an important one for you both. In the past, it was taken for granted that a couple would marry in a church, even those with no religious beliefs. The only alternative at that time was a short, impersonal ceremony at a busy register office.
The introduction of approved licensed venues has completely altered this image of civil weddings. Those wanting a touch of glamour on their special day are likely to find it at one of the hundreds of approved venues around the country. The decoration of the ceremony room can be as sumptuous - if not more so - than the most magnificent church, and many can accommodate several hundred guests.
Once you have decided on the type of ceremony venue, get hold of a copy of a standard wedding service for your faith, or a copy of the civil marriage service (see Order of Service). This will give you a starting point in planning your service, and show you where you may incorporate your personalized music, vows and readings.
