The responsibility for orgainising the majority of the wedding traditionally falls on the bride's mother and the bride herself.
Before the wedding day, the bride and her mother need to:
- Arrange for both sets of parents to meet
- Discuss plans and budget with the groom and both sets of parents
- Arrange press announcements for the engagement
- Together with the groom, select and appoint wedding attendants
- Decide on the number of wedding guests to be invited
- Draw up the guest list with the assistance of both sets of parents
- Draw up the wedding gift list with the assistance of the groom
- Draft a budget
- Arrange wedding insurance
- Decide upon the type of wedding wanted
- Choose and book a venue for the ceremony and reception
- Visit the registrar/minister and deal with the legal requirements
- Choose and order the wedding cake
- Write thank you letters for gifts as they arrive
- Choose and book the photographer and videographer, transport, entertainment and flowers
- Choose wedding attire for the bride and attendants
- Choose, order and despatch invitations
- Keep a list of the guests' responses as these arrive
- Arrange printing of the Order of Service sheets, and any other printing, such as menus and placecards
- Advise the best man of anyone specific to mention in his speech
- Obtain gifts for attendants
- Wear in wedding shoes!
- Consult with the groom's mother to co-ordinate outfits, and arrange complimentary corsages
- Arrange wedding rehearsal
- Enjoy the Hen Night!
