Cancellations and Postponements

If the wedding is cancelled or postponed, the hosts should give all guests as much notice as possible in order to avoid any further inconvenience. A written notice should be sent to all those who have been sent an invitation - whether or not they have yet replied to confirm their attendance. However, if there is little time before the wedding was due to take place, a personal note or telephone call will be sufficient.

All suppliers of goods and services should also be advised, initially by telephone, followed up by a written letter of confirmation.

Any wedding gifts that have been received do not have to be returned in the case of postponement or modification to the wedding plans. However, if the wedding is cancelled entirely, they should be returned.

Cancellation

Notices informing guests of cancellation may be brief and to the point - no explanation is necessary, for example:

Mr and Mrs Richard Palmer announce
that the marriage of their daughter
Elizabeth
to
Mr David Green
will not now take place.

Mr and Mrs Richard Palmer

of Mr Palmer’s father

and the Reception afterwards at The Royal Hotel
has been cancelled.
The marriage will be held privately in the presence of the
immediate family at a date to be arranged.

Postponement

If the marriage is being postponed to a later date, again all invited guests should be informed in writing as soon as possible.
