This pot is known as the fund's assets and is used to buy a range of investments such as shares, bonds and gilts (known as the fund's holdings). In return for your cash you'll get shares or units that have a value (the NAV or net asset value, often known as the unit price) and entitle you to a portion of the fund's holdings.
