Types of Web Site

Web sites range from simple two- or three-page sites with little interactivity to huge multimedia affairs costing tens if not hundreds of thousands of pounds. But most fall into one of the following categories:

  • E-commerce sites - where the visitor can purchase goods or services directly over the Internet.
  • Brochureware - informing the visitor about a company's products or services.
  • News sites - widespread distribution of useful or interesting information download sites - sites that supply software such as games or music either free or at a charge.
  • Special-interest sites - such as clubs, trade bodies, or hobby sites.

Each type needs different and specific components that affect the price and complexity of the site. For the do-it-yourself Web designer using standard Web-space suppliers brochureware is likely to be the most viable option.
