A game in which the player takes on a character, including specified traits such as class, major skills, minor skills and levels this character up by gaining experience points (XP). RPGs are typically lengthy, slow moving games with elaborate storylines that involve going on a quest and developing one or more characters on the way. Although traditionally featuring turn-based combat (e.g. Final Fantasy series), newer RPGs tend to incorporate real-time combat (the Zelda series), a mixture of the two (World of Warcraft) or even no combat at all (Broken Sword series). RPGs often involve puzzle-solving, detective work and/or lateral thinking in order to get past obstacles.
