Platform Game

One of the earliest game forms, the platform game is a side scrolling 2D environment characterised by ledges (platforms) on which the characters are required to jump between. Platforms are often arranged so that there are ledges higher and lower than the player's starting position and the player must try to jump to those often enemy-ridden, moving, hard-to-reach or booby-trapped platforms. These games also typically involve collecting items and jumping on enemies. Examples include Sonic the Hedgehog (Mega Drive), Super Mario Bros (NES) and Jak and Daxter (PS2).
