A term used by game players to indicate a bug or programming error of some sort. It may refer to either a helpful or harmful error, but never an intended behaviour. For example, a programming error that makes the game freeze may be referred to as a glitch, as could an error that, for example, gave the player 50 extra lives in a manner clearly not intended by the game's programming. The word derives from the German glitschen, meaning 'to slip.'
