In the majority of 3D games, the player's point of view may be changed either by the player, or as part of the game. For example, the camera may automatically view the game action from behind the character, but during certain situations (such as death-defying leaps) the angle may change to a side view to maximise the drama.
3D games attempt to keep key characters and objects in full view at all time (with varying degrees of success); this is quality is referred to as the camera. The ability of a player to manipulate the view (swing, zoom) is known as camera control.
