Bladed Hand Tools
Use the right tool for the job, and make sure the blade is sharp. You are more likely to have an accident using a blunt tool, because it needs more force to do its job. Keep your hands behind the cutting direction. Fit blade guards when not using the tool.
Power Tools
Power saws and routers (a tool for gouging) need handling with particular care. With all power tools, read instructions carefully. Never try to remove, bypass, or deactivate a blade guard or other safety feature. Let the motor stop before setting the tool down, and switch off tools whenever you are not using them, even if only for a very short time.
Keep clothes and hair away from moving parts. Wear safety equipment when appropriate.
While You Work
Tie back long hair, wear shoes that protect your feet, and avoid loose-fitting clothes or dangling jewellery. If a job takes longer than you'd anticipated, don't rush or take short cuts. Take frequent breaks - tiredness is the underlying cause of many accidents.
