Blood Clotting

The process (also known as coagulation), by which blood becomes a solid mass and seals a wound. When a blood vessel is damaged, the platelets release an enzyme that converts the protein fibrinogen, found in blood plasma, to insoluble fibrin. This forms a mesh over the wound in which blood cells are trapped.
