Anaemia

A condition in which the blood does not contain enough haemoglobin, the compound that carries oxygen from the lungs to other parts of the body. Symptoms include tiredness, pallor, poor resistance to infection and breathlessness on exertion. The condition may be caused by abnormally large loss of blood, abnormality in the haemoglobin, lack of Vitamin B12 or iron, leukaemia or abnormality in the red blood cells.
