Adrenaline

Known in the US as Epinephrine or 'Epi'.

A hormone produced by the adrenal glands in response to stress, exercise, or fear - otherwise known as the 'fright, flight or fight' hormone. It increases heart rate and opens the airways to improve the rate and depth of breathing. It also reduces the blood supply to the intestines so that more blood can flow to the muscles and increases the force of muscular contraction in order to ready the body for immediate physical or mental exertion.

See also Noradrenaline.
