Universal Joint

A joint that transmits rotary motion between two rods or shafts that are not in a straight line, consisting of a pair of ordinary hinges located close together, but oriented at 90 degrees relative to each other. Universal joints are common in car construction wherever a driveshaft needs to turn a corner, such as in the Hotchkiss drive.
