When a pair of wheels is set so that their leading edges are pointed slightly towards each other, the wheel pair is said to have toe-in. The amount of toe-in can be measured by subtracting the distance between the front edges of a pair of tyres from the distance between the rear edges of the same pair of tyres. Toe-in enhances straight-line stability, but too much will cause accelerated wear at the outboard edges of the tyres.
