Preparing to Tile

As well as creating a practical surface, tiles are good for covering up imperfect plaster or dated tiles. Before tiling, make sure the surface is dry and reasonably smooth, although minor cracks and bumps will be covered by the adhesive. If there are traces of damp on a wall or floor, the cause must be identified and remedied before you start to tile.
