You can't prevent heat escaping from a house but, by insulating efficiently, it's possible to slow down the rate at which it is lost, saving on heating costs. Insulation is more effective in some areas than others. For example, you can cut the rate of heat loss through walls and roofs by around two-thirds, but windows by only half. Overall, effective insulation can cut the heat loss from your house by up to 60 per cent.
