Seatbelt Pretensioners

A safety device that pre-emptively tightens the seatbelt during a frontal impact to prevent the passenger from jerking forward. The system then gradually releases the belt tension to lessen the impact forces transferred to the occupant. Pretensioners also lower the risk of the occupant 'submarining' whereby they slide forward under a loosely worn seat belt.
