An engine/transmission layout in which the rear wheels of a vehicle receive all the engine power. Rear Wheel Drive provides less traction than Front Wheel Drive in poor road conditions as less weight is available over the drive wheels. However, RWD provides better handling and acceleration in dry conditions, and is easier and cheaper to repair. It is also provides a smaller steering radius.
Almost all non-4WD trucks and most SUVs are rear wheel drive, as are the majority of sports cars.
