Rust

A common term for the corrosion of bare metal (particularly steel) when it is exposed to air and moisture. Although modern rust protection treatments are very effective, it is important to treat any scratches or dents found on a vehicle's bodywork immediately, as the protective layer may have been destroyed, thus exposing the metal to attack. In winter, cars should be washed more regularly as the salt found on the roads can accelerate the rusting process.
