Engine, Rotary

Also known as the Wankel Engine.

An unusual engine design, created by Dr Felix Wankel in 1957. Instead of using conventional cylinders, the rotary engine uses a triangular rotor turning in an oval chamber to create combustion chambers in which the fuel is burnt. Although this type of engine is smaller, lighter and smoother than a conventional engine, it is less fuel-efficient and creates more emissions.
