Phaeton

A term applied to convertibles built before the 1940's, consisting of a 2 or 4 door body with a folding fabric top. A conventional phaeton would have side curtains rather than roll-up windows. A four-seater was called a double phaeton, and the six- or seven- seater a triple phaeton. Early Phaetons had a high-mounted rear seat for the driver.
