Particulate Filter

Also known as Particulate Trap.

A device used to remove particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. If fitted, emissions are virtually eliminated, and no visible smoke is emitted from the vehicle's exhaust pipe. Some filters are disposable, whilst others are designed to burn off the accumulated particulates. For the system to work at its best, diesel fuel with a very low sulphur content should be used.
