Multi Point Injection (MPI)

A system that injects fuel into individual cylinders, rather than at a central point within an intake manifold. The systems can be:

  • Simultaneous: the fuel is injected at the same time to all the cylinders.
  • Sequential: the injections are timed to coincide with each cylinder's intake stroke.

Batched: the fuel is injected to the cylinders in groups, without synchronisation to any particular cylinder's intake stroke.

See also Fuel Injection.
