Kamm

Also known as Kammback.

A style of car named after the German aerodynamicist Dr Wunibald Kamm who discovered that drag begins to increase after the rear of a car's cross-sectional area is reduced to 50% of the car's maximum cross section. He developed a design with a smooth roofline and a taper in the automobile's body that was sharply truncated at the rear end. This reduced the turbulence that acted as an air brake at high speeds.

Dr Kamm's principle is used in a variety of vehicles, including race cars, sports cars and highly efficient hybrid powered cars.
