Independent Suspension

A type of suspension where all four wheels move independently of each other. That means that when one wheel hits a hole or bump in the road, this has no effect of the other wheels. Formerly used almost exclusively on cars, independent suspension can now be found on SUVs and other vehicles.

Most modern cars have independent suspensions on the front wheels, although many also have an independent rear suspension (IRS). A fully independent suspension has an independent suspension on all wheels.
