A term taken from the Italian: Gran Turismo, and used to describe a high-performance saloon or sports car designed for long distance driving. Grand tourers differ from typical sports cars in that they are usually larger, heavier, and tend to make less compromise in comfort for the sake of driving ability. They are produced as two- or four-seaters, with the rear seats always cramped.
Examples of grand tourers include the Aston Martin DB9, the BMW 6-Series, Jaguar XK8 and the Porsche 928.
