In 1824 Dr Johan G. B. Siegert perfected his bitter-tasting formula using various local plant extracts, as a remedy for stomach complaints suffered by the Venezuelan army. He named it after the town on the Orinoco River where he had worked - Angostura. The British Navy added this product to its medicine chest, but soon discovered it added a whole new dimension to Plymouth gin, and thus created a 'Pink Gin'.

- 4 dashes of Angostura iced water
Instructions
Coat interior bottom half of frosted glass with Angostura, discard the excess. Stir and strain gin into glass and serve with the water. If served with soda water, not plain, this is a Coaster.
