Ingredients

  • 1 cup strong flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup polenta
  • 1 cup treacle
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In large bowl, stir together strong flour, whole wheat flour, polenta, bicarbonate of soda. Stir in treacle and water; mix until combined. Pour batter into two lightly greased coffee cans, fill about 2/3 full.
  2. Place loaves into a steamer, cover and steam over low heat. Steam for 1 hour and 45 minutes, until loaves are set.
