What If Things Go Wrong?

by Edward Smith

Every pension scheme comes with a 'dispute resolution' (disagreement) procedure which your employer must inform you about. You should follow this procedure in the case of a dispute. If this fails, then you can go to the Pensions Advisory Service (OPAS) for independent advice. If you wish to take your dispute further you can contact the Pensions Ombudsman, who can make legally binding decisions, but only on points of law. In rare cases the Pensions Compensation Board can, in the case of a dishonest removal of a pension schemes assets, make compensation payments to a scheme.

If you have lost the details for your occupational pension

If you have lost or misplaced the details for your occupational pension then you should be able to contact the Pension Schemes Registry for help. The more details you can supply them, the more likely it is that they will be able to trace your scheme.
