How Much Will I Get?

The following amounts are intended as a guide, the rules for benefits means that individual circumstances can affect the amount received.

Basic State Pension (per week)

Based on your own or your late spouse's NI Contributions £77.45
Based on your spouses NI Contributions £46.35
Non-contributory (based on residence) full rate £46.35
Non-contributory (based on residence) married woman's rate £27.70
Over 80 addition £0.25
Over 80 Pension £46.35

Additional State Pension

From 6 April 2002 SERPS was updated from a system which originally only provided for employees of companies as it was based on your National Insurance contributions record, to provide an increased additional State Pension for low to moderate income earners. Certain carers and people with long-term illness or disability are also entitled. This is now called the State Second Pension.

Graduated Retirement Benefit

This is for the benefit of those who have paid graduated NI Contributions between April 1961 and April 1975. You will receive £9.21 for every £7.50 paid (if you are male) or £9 paid (if you are female).

Extra benefits for dependents

The following are the benefits received for dependants:

Dependent children

At the moment you may get an additional:

  • £9.65 for the oldest child who qualifies for Child Benefit.
  • £11.35 for each additional child who qualifies.

Dependent adults

You may receive up to an additional £43.40 for a spouse or a person looking after.
