Location: West of Bordeaux, France
The Dune of Pilat, situated at the entrance of the Bay of Arcachon, is the biggest sand formation of Europe. Measuring 118 metres high, 2700 meters long, 500 meters wide and with a volume of 20 million cubic meters of sand, it attracts over 1 million visitors every year.
Its undulating lines, patterns of light and shade on the rippled surface, and sheer size make it one of our world's natural wonders.
