Starting Price

Often abbreviated to SP.

The Starting Price is an average of the on-course bookmaker’s prices taken at the start of each race, and is the price on a horse when the book closes. These prices form the basis of the pay out to winning punters if they haven't taken a specified price themselves. These prices are not known by punters at the time of betting.
