Form

Some people will bet on the basis of "form" - i.e., the previous performance of a horse in the races into which it has been entered.

The major racing papers give guides to recent form, where a form entry may read something like: 011123-UP.

This would mean the horse had been unplaced, first, first, first, second, third, unseated rider and pulled up in its previous runs.

Runs in the last season are after the dash, with the most recent run on the right, and the oldest run on the far left.

Abbreviations used are:

  • B: Brought Down
  • d: Disqualified
  • F: Fell
  • P: Pulled Up
  • U: Unseated Rider
  • 0: Unplaced
