Background
Founded by Robert Kilroy-Silk on February 2, 2005 as a result as a split from UKIP (United Kingdom Independence Party). The party was named 'Veritas' from the Latin for 'truth', promising to avoid the 'spin' and lies offered by other political parties.
The majority of Veritas's policies are focused on the level of immigration to the United Kingdom, as opposed to the eurosceptic stance of UKIP. However, Veritas won no seats at the General Election in May 2005, and many of its members have resigned.
The party has one MEP, Robert Kilroy Silk, voted in when he was a member of UKIP. Kilroy Silk resigned from the party leadership in July 2005.
